Six and ei,ght minute coverage extend beyond city
limits. This is superb for the city of Roseville.
Proposed Stations
How many stations a department needs to protect an area depends in large part on the size
of the built-up area to be protected; risks present; and type of developments to be protected.
However, the sheer size of the area and speed lirnits on the street network are the prime factors,
along with the desired response time goals. T'he latter is more a factor of standards and past
experience than of risk .
In addition to response time goals, the road network plays a sizeable role in the number
of stations required. A perfect grid-patterned road network allows for the largest area to be
reached in a given time, assuming uniform travel speeds on all road segments. Access to high-
speed roadways (interstates, limited-access highways, etc.) increases the reachable area; winding,
narrow, steep roads and traffic calming devices decrease the area reachable in a given time.
System Planning Corporation 14 May 2008
TriDaia Division
