There would be no cost <br />to the City except for providing <br />space for parking the ambulance <br />when not in servicc. Lcague mem- <br />bers were pleased that this plan <br />included almost all of their recnm- <br />mendations and was in place at the <br />time of the June 1981 tornado. The <br />plan has been reviewcd periodi.call.y <br />by City staff and services have been <br />monitored for y�tality and cost. <br />In 1992, the Lcague of Women <br />Votcrs RoMaFH did an update on <br />thc study of Emcrgcncy Medical <br />Services (EMS) in Roscville, and <br />found that the scrvicc appeared to <br />be working �o thc satisfaction of <br />bolh city ofricials and residents. At <br />lhat time, an EMS ambulance was <br />sCalioned in the city and respoose <br />limes seemed to be adcquatc. <br />Unti] 1999, all firefighters in <br />Roseville were volunteers, includ- <br />ing the chief and station chiefs. All <br />were paid per cal] and per hours of <br />service_ The only exception was a <br />salaried Fire Marshal whose respon- <br />sibilities included investigation of <br />the origin of fires, inspections to <br />prevent %res, and education af the <br />public on fire prevention. This posi- <br />tion was created in 1969. <br />Since 1999, Roseville has had a <br />salaried full-time Fire Chief. In <br />January of 20{l2, a full-time <br />Assistant Chief was hired, hringing <br />the nuinber oi� full-tirne positions to <br />four: Fire Chief, Assistant Fire <br />Chief, Fire Inspector and Fire <br />Marshal. The Fire Marshal and Fire <br />Inspector were part of the <br />Department of Communiry <br />Devela�ment at that time. <br />Seg:inning in 2003, their com�ensa- <br />tion became part of the rire <br />Department's 6udget. <br />All other �irefightcrs are volunteers, <br />who continuc to bc paid per call and <br />per hours of scrvicc. {See page six.} <br />As of April 2003, thc R�seville Fire <br />Department had 53 volunteers, <br />(including Lwo womcn), in addition <br />to the four full-lime, salaried staff <br />mentioned above. <br />At the League of Women Voters <br />Annual Meeting in May 2002, the <br />n�embership once again voted to <br />study the Roseville Fire Department <br />in responsc to the fact that recruit- <br />ing voluntccr firefighters was <br />bccotYUng incrcasingl.y difficult. <br />This report will look at the current <br />firc dcpartmcnt and cmerging <br />issues. <br />The study committee is composed <br />of six. I.eague rnembers who live in <br />Rosevillc.
