Results of Pilot Program <br />This section describes the results of the study, using a variety of data. <br />Set Out and Participation Rates <br />Set out rates and participation rates measure the portion of residents who actually put out recyclables for <br />collection. <br />Set out rate is defined as the nuxnber of households that have material out on any given collection day. <br />Participation rate is de£med as the number of households that have material oui during a given periad of <br />collection days. The highest set out rates in the `Before" period were in the Single-Stream Contrast <br />area at 82% and the Control area at 75%. The oiher areas ranged from about 63% to 69%. <br />�"During" ueriod. The highest set oui rates in the "During" perzod were again in the Single-Stream <br />Contrast area at 90% followed by Single-Sh'eam at 84%, with the others ranging from abaut 72% to <br />7$%. <br />' Chan�e. The largest changes in se# out rates were in the Single-Stream and Two Bin areas, where the <br />set ou# rates each increased by about 15%. The Single-Stream Contrast set out rate increased by S%, <br />but was already high in the first place. The set ont rate for the Control area did no# change, as would <br />be expected. <br />■ The Weekly area in the "During" pez�iod was the only pilot area not collected every other week. As a <br />consequence, set outs for the Weekly area declined to 57% on any given collection day, a rate similar <br />17 <br />
