Recyclab�e Materials Composition Pro�ocol <br />4. Select a sample of at least 200 pounds from the mixed pile. Place the sample into <br />plastic 55-gallon barrels or onto a taip for sorting. <br />The sampling procedures vc�ritten herein are for the nnaximum work effort for the <br />BEFORE "�wo-sort' Monday pilot routes {i.e., two trucks). Most piiot routes will be <br />collected by one truck, one route per day. <br />1. Pull two random samples from the paper load from the l st truck; <br />2. Pull two random samples from the container load from the lst truck; <br />3. Sort samples to obtain camposition by vveighi as per sort operations (Paper and <br />Container Sorting) below; and <br />4. Repeat sampling steps #1 and #2 above for the 2°d trucl�s paper and container <br />loads. <br />4. Paper Sorting <br />■ Dne to the large amount (65% +) oi old newspaper (ONP) compared to other <br />papez catego�ries, set up two or three ONP carts with sort board labels. <br />� Set up two carts for oId corivgated cardboard (OCC} with sort board labels due to <br />the bulky volume of this �ade compared to other paper categories. <br />■ Sort as much ONP as possible to clear out this bulky, rnajority paper grade_ <br />Debag ONP bundled in Kraft bags by empty�ing into appropriate ONP cart and <br />placing empty Kraft bags into OCC/Kraft cart. All ONP inserts {e.g., Sunday <br />flyers/circuiars) should go into ONP cart. <br />■ Weigh ONP carts when they become about 75% full. That is, DO NOT <br />OVERLOAD vvith any paper grade (e.g., ONP, rnagazines, household office <br />paper, etc.) to avoid lifting injuries. <br />■ Sort as much OCC/Kraft as possible to clear out this bulky paper grade. <br />■ Sort other �ninority paper grades (i.e., household office paper, magazines, <br />boxboard, Beer/Pop/Water Boxes, Other Paper Trash, etc.)_ <br />■ Sort down to a particle size of 1-inch plus. All particles smaller than 1-inch shall <br />be swept up aud categorized as"Other Paper TrasH' <br />■ Weigh all carts/bins including gross and tare weights. <br />■ Clean sort area and prepare for next sub-sample. <br />5. Container Sorting <br />■ Label carts and sort into container categozies: `Metal Cans';`Glass Bottles and Jar�; <br />`PJastic Bottles',`Piastic Base and Oiher Fi�n Plasti�; and`sOther Trasli' <br />■ Sort down to a parl-icle size of 1-inch plus.
