HEALTH AND SAFETY PLAN <br />City of Roseville <br />Recyclable Ma#erials Composifion Study <br />1. Objective o�this Plan <br />The objective of this plan is to identify the critical health and safety issues related to <br />the sorting activities and the method used to train staff conceming ihese issues as weli <br />as accurate sorting procedures. <br />The personal safety and health of each staff person is a prunary consideration of the <br />Projcct Team. The prevention of occupationally-induced injnries and illnesses wiil be <br />given high priority during the performance of sorting activities. The Project Team <br />will provide industry standard equipment, trauung, and physical facilities necessary <br />for maintaining the personal safety and health of aIl staff rnembers. Along with this <br />cornmitment, it is the responsibility of each and every staff person to contribute to his <br />or her own amd fellaw worker's health and safety by learning and exezcising safe work <br />practices and complying with all requurements of this site safety plan. <br />2. Applicabi�i�y <br />This site safety plan outlines and explains the various equipmcnt, proceduzes and rules <br />vvhich have been desi�ed to keep sorters safe and heall.hy during fhzs st�idy. Unsafe <br />practices or behavioz will not be tolerated. <br />3. Standard Operat�ng Procedures <br />The basic procedure for sorters will be to identify different materials in a recyclable <br />materials sample tlaat has been piaced on a waist-high sorting table and to place the <br />materials in nearby appropriately labeled contaivaers. Before receiving the matezi�als <br />on the table it will have been examined by the Site Supervisor (or an appropriately <br />trained assistant) foz hQUSehoid hazardous, hazardous, and infectious waste. This is <br />considered the pre-sort and is very critical as related to site health and safety. After <br />the malerial is sorted into the coniainers, the supervisor or an assistant will weigh the <br />containers. After the containers are emptied, tk�e next samplc will be brougkat to the <br />table and the sorti�ag will begin again. <br />4, Location of Safety Equipment <br />The foliowing items will be located near the sorting tables for immediate access: <br />Roseville - Health & Safety P]an <br />
