Employees and Persona! Protective Equipment <br />5,1 Sorters and Work Zones <br />Based upon the amount af hazardous safely training and responsibiJzty assumed for the <br />study, various tasks have been assigned to staff. <br />5.2 Site Supervisor <br />1�e Site Supervisor is the site safety o�cer and the emezgency coardinator. T'�e Site <br />Supervisoz will be overseeing the entire work area and will be zesponsibie fox <br />presorting the material samples for hazards before the sampie is categorized by the <br />sorters. The sorters rnay not approach the areas where unexamined saxnpies are being <br />stared or exannined. In the event of a spill of hazardous material frotn a sample, the <br />supervisor is responsible for clea�up of the spiJl or for calling the appropriate <br />authoritzes. <br />5.3 Ass�stant Superviso� <br />The Assistant Supervisor will assist the SiYe Supervisar as necessary. The focus of the <br />Assistance 5upervisor's role is to facilitate the sorting process for the sorting crew. <br />5.4 Sorters <br />Sorters will sort and categorize the materials being sampled. In order to nnake the job <br />as comfortable and safe as possible, a nwxzber of procedures and work locations will <br />be defined. The matcrials will have been presorted by the 5ite Supervisor or Assistant <br />Supervisor to remove the hazardous, household hazardous, and infectious waste, and <br />the sortexs will be limited to working only in the vicinity of the sort tables and taking <br />breaks in a predetennilied area. <br />5.5 Need for Personal Protective Clothing <br />Recyclable materials are nvt likely to contain hazardous or infectious wastes. <br />However, hazardous items and substances may be encountered in close range, picked <br />up by hand, or may have leaked from a broken container and mixed with the <br />recycIable materials.
