In additian to the personal protective clothing listed
previously for sortcrs, presorting the samples for hazardous, household hazardous, and
infectious waste requires the wearing of a half-faced respira#or. The Site Supervisor
and Assistant Supervisor will be thc only staff canducting te presorting and,
preferably, have received safety training associated with wearing the additianal
respiratory protection.
5.7 SpiIIS
In the unlikely event of a spill or a release of a hazardous substance in a quantity still
manageable by on-site personnel, the Si.te Supervisor will wear a poly-coated Tyvek
suite (yeIlow) with duct tape to scal tlae wrists and ankles, double gloves (nitrile glovcs
with inncr vinyl gloves), and disposable vinyl ovrboots to protect against liquids.
The Site Supervisor will also switch to a full-faced respirator_
5.8 Likelihood of Heat and Cold Stress
Because the study will be taking place inside a minimally heated area and outside,
enviroxuxentai factors are an inaportant consideratioz in worker health and safety.
Additionally, the personal protective clothing requixed for the study can aggravate
situations caused by uncornfortable weather. A large Tyvek suit will be worn ovex
layers of clothing. Frequcnt bzeaks will be encouraged in the event of extremely hot
or cold weather. A work/rest schedule will be adapted to weathcr conditions. Also,
vvater coolers and beverages will be pxavided throughout the sort.
5.9 First Aid for Heat and Co[d Stress
The following are First Aid procedures for conditions caused by hot and cold
temperature extremes that may be aggravated by xequired personal protective
equipment:
Roseville - Heallh & Sefcty Plan R.
