Heafth and Safety Ptan <br />l.2 Household Haza�dous <br />Household Hazax'dous: Materials commonly fou�d in the home or work place which <br />can be toxic, especially when discarded; e.g., paints, solvents, strong cleaners, <br />pesticides. <br />Action: If a sorter becomes aware that something is spilled in the materials and <br />hazardous--e.g., they smell a solvent or chemical odor �iey will be advised to stop <br />working, step away, notify the others at tl�e table to stop wark, and call the supervisor. <br />If an unidentified chexni.cal has apparently spilled on tb.e materials, the sample will be <br />rejected, the table cleaned, and a new sample broughi in_ Sorters will set aside items <br />considered honsehold hazardous waste (HHV� pez the material category definitions. <br />The Site Supervisor will be responsible for working with the facility staff to designate <br />a location to place the HIIW upon sorting the material far each sampie. <br />7.3 Enfec��ous Was�e <br />Infectious Waste: Solid waste i�hat might be able to transfer disease or infection to <br />azxother person; e.g., exttemely bloody xxzedical items, syringes, or an indiscriminately <br />discarded biomedical bag. These biomedical bags are often red in color and they have <br />"infectiaus waste" or the biomedical symbol printed on t1�em. � <br />Action: Tf a hospital or vcterinary bag or a similar medical vvastc is found, work will <br />be stopped and the coordinator notified to remove the materials from tlae table. Single <br />syringes are quite common in residential refuse and one of thc major zeasons hands <br />should not be plunged blindly into samples. If a syringe is found, the sorter finciang it <br />should announce to otI�cr workers at the table "Syringe." The sorter will then move <br />the syringe to the appropriate container in order not to accidentally poke therr�selves, <br />another worker, or someone who may be coming up frorn behind. <br />8. Emergency Contingency Plan <br />Tlae Site Supervisor will be fihe emergency coord'uiator. The Assistant Supervisor will <br />be the emergency coordinator in the event that the supervisor is not availablc. The <br />Site Supervisor is responsible for undexstanding and complying with the facilities' <br />emergency contingency plan and will follow site procedures. <br />8.1 Emergency Eyewash Unit <br />An emergency eyewash unit or portable eyewash bottles will bc located near the sort <br />area_ T� the event that sorneone gets a foreign object in his or her eye, the victinl's <br />eyes should be flushed wiih water from tb.e eyewash unit. <br />Roseville - Health Xc Sefety Plan R. �.
