Roseville City Council
Minutes of 1/29/07 Pg 19 of 38
Councilmember Roe concurred with Councilmember Pust, that any future
appointments would be proactive; and that only the reappointment of these
two individuals on this particular commission was currently being consid-
ered. Councilmember Roe reiterated comments made previously that Coun-
cilmember's Kough and Ihlan had moved and voted the current policy; and
questioned their lack of support for the policy at this time. Councilmember
Roe opined that these were two excellent commissioners being considered
for reappointment; and further opined that they were both previously ap-
pointed during Councilmember Kough's time in office, so he should have
been a participant in their interviews.

Councilmember Ihlan, in response to Councilmember Roe's comments,
opined that the previous vote on the policy was irrelevant and was the best
policy available under the circumstances.

Mayor Klausing spoke in support of the motion; and recognized Planning
Commission Chair Bakeman's comments endorsing the reappointment of
both Commissioner Boerigter and Doherty; their work to-date and the future
workload of the commission and their expertise and skills already devel-
oped.

Roll Call
Ayes: Roe; Pust and Klausing.
Nays: Kough and Ihlan.
Motion carried.

11. Consider Appointments to the Planning Commission
Considerable discussion was held regarding the process for voting on the
appointment process; and the context of Chair Bakeman's endorsements.

Councilmembers Ihlan and Kough registered their opposition to including
Chair Bakeman's recommendations as part of the selection process.

Ihlan moved, Kough seconded, to not include Planning Commission Chair's
recommendation in the City Council selection process.

Councilmember Pust questioned how the process would be skewed with in-
cluding Chair Bakeman's recommendations in the process.

Further discussion ensued.

Roll Call
