Mr. Keel also advised that
major discussion of and support for additional or new ways to conserve energy and
recycle were strongly advocated.

Councilmember Roe opined that his ilnpression from the meetings he'd attended,
and the sense of the process, was that environmental issues were one of the ways
the community was interested in being leaders in the field; and were supportive of
using that leadership role as a great opportunity for the City of Roseville to pursue
creative ways to improve the environment, whether through how the government
itself does business or by standards the City established for other's doing business
in the community, developing/redeveloping, or building homes.

Parks, Open Space, Recreation, Wellness
Goals identified were: Roseville has world-renowned parks, open space, and multi-
generational recreation programs and facilities; and Roseville supports the health
and wellness of community members.

Strategies identified were: expand and maintain year-round, creative programs and
facilities for all ages, abilities and interests; provide high quality and well-
maintained facilities, parks and trails; promote and encourage active and healthy
lifestyles for all; and support initiatives and partnerships to improve health care
quality, affordability, and access.

Mr. Keel noted that residents throughout the community were very protective of
their neighborhood parks, as well as all parks and open spaces in the community.

Mr. Traynor noted that if there were any area where citizens wanted to be leaders,
the parks and open spaces were it! Mr. Traynor opined that this was where any
community modesty was shed, and citizens were very careful and protective of
their parks and open spaces. Mr. Traynor advised that citizens recognized the need
to have a balance, but no one commented that the City needed less park space.

Mayor Klausing noted his initial involvement with the City through the Infrastruc-
ture Advisory Committee, and at that time, citizens felt there was no need to ac-
quire additional park land unless it was adjacent to existing land and would fill out
that space; but the consensus was to maintain the quality of existing parks. Mayor
Klausing questioned if that remained the community's perception.
