<br />Special City Council Meeting <br />Thursday, March 29, 2007 <br />Page 3 of 20 <br />and community facilities (i.e., community center) that would increase wellness and <br />fitness initiatives. <br /> <br />Mayor Klausing noted that some of those concerns were identified by citizens in <br />the goals and strategies. <br /> <br />Mr. Keel noted that the intent of this report was not to provide specific answers to <br />community issues; but would open up discussion and brainstorming for creative <br />ideas to respond to community comments. <br /> <br />Mr. Keel then led a round table discussion in each category. <br /> <br />Community <br />Goals were identified: Roseville is a welcoming community that appreciates dif- <br />ferences and fosters diversity; Roseville is a desirable place to live, work and play; <br />Roseville has a strong and inclusive sense of community; and Roseville residents <br />are invested in their community. <br /> <br />Strategies identified were: make Roseville a livable community for all; respect and <br />encourage diversity; ensure City staff and elected and appointed officials respect <br />and reflect diversity of the City's population; create an attractive, vibrant, and ef- <br />fective city with a high quality of life; provide excellent, effective and efficient city <br />services; provide regional leadership in creative and sustainable redevelopment; <br />enhance the city's diverse business community; foster and support community <br />gathering places; explore a new community center; promote and support city- <br />sponsored and community-based events; encourage development of neighborhood <br />identities to build a sense of community and foster neighborhood communications, <br />planning and decision-making; provide meaningful opportunities for community <br />engagement; and ensure that city government is civil, informative and responsive. <br /> <br />Mr. Keel highlighted the overall perception, among all subcommittees, that Rose- <br />ville is a vibrant, welcoming community that appreciates differences and fosters <br />diversity; and is a good place to work and play. Generally, there is a sense of in- <br />clusiveness within the community and residents are invested in the community. <br /> <br />Areas of alert including the changing demographics in the community; and ways to <br />anticipate and find proactive ways to actively address those changes to keep that <br />welcome evident to all; with some concern expressed by residents that perhaps, <br />
