HRA Meeting
Minutes – Tuesday, May 15, 2012
Page 8
1
Ms. Kelsey questioned if that served as part of the HRA’s new Mission Statement, those four
2
(4) ore values on the overall broad perspective.
3
4
Discussion ensued on the HRA’s current tag line including providing fair, decent, and
5
affordable housing; offering a “hand up, not a hand out;” and the need to incorporate the
6
“Living Smarter, Living Greener” way of life and marketing campaign into Mission Statement;
7
as well as incorporating the HRA’s goals in the new tag line.
8
9
Mission Statement
10
Ms. Raye read the HRA’s current Mission or Value Statement from the HRA’s website; and
11
led the HRA in a discussion as follows.
12
13
What needs to be in the HRA Mission Statement from the HRA Board’s point of view?
14
15
Member Majerus opined that the Mission Statement should be at a higher level.
16
17
Ms. Raye questioned what the HRA wanted to leave as their legacy.
18
19
Chair Majerus responded: quality housing, good design, good integration, and a sense of place
20
and community.
21
22
Member Lee, using the Living Smarter in Roseville tag line, responded: intentional
23
community.
24
25
Mr. Raye suggested using something about what the HRA did: working in housing and
26
redevelopment that is strategic and intentional in creating a sense of place.
27
28
Chair Maschka noted that stewardship came into the green living concepts.
29
30
Member Majerus noted the small town feel of Roseville and the purpose housing served in that
31
purpose.
32
33
Member Lee noted that same thread in several different statements.
34
35
Ms. Raye questioned if the word “intentional” was important to the HRA; or if the sense of
36
place and a community you wanted to live in captured what Member Lee was looking for, or if
37
something more powerful was indicated.
38
39
Chair Majerus responded that he wanted “innovation” and “leadership” included.
40
41
Member Lee responded that she wanted to ensure a welcome to a diverse community.
42
43
Ms. Raye opined that it would be helpful for staff to have the HRA’s key elements included in
44
their first draft of a Mission Statement rather than starting from scratch. Ms. Raye further
45
opined that the HRA’s current Mission Statement was too narrow for what they wanted to
46
accomplish, since it included nothing about redevelopment, or purchasing property and
47
demolishing structures to revitalize neighborhoods, etc. Ms. Raye noted that the four (4) core
48
values of the HRA had already been identified for the Mission Statement.
49
50
Ms. Raye encouraged individual members to state, in one sentence, their idea of the mission of
51
the Roseville HRA, or:
52
53
What are you trying to accomplish?
