LICENSING OF CATS AND DOGS
By: Tom Kough
May 14, 2007

Present Rules:

$5 for a two year license. Must have rabies and distemper shots every two years before
license is issued. When you buy a license, tags are issued and are supposed to be worn by
the pet, but sometimes are not.

Proposed:

Same, or Lifetime Option:

Lifetime Option:

$20 for a lifetime license. Must have rabies and distemper shots every two years, with
notification to City required.

Another Option:

Identification Chip. $40. This is an identification chip with an identifaction number
placed under the skin on the neck. If your animal is picked up, they can be "wanded" and
identified as to owner, city, and owner's phone number. This protects against lost tags.

Presently, dogs picked up in Roseville go to Brighton Veterinary Clinic (651-636-1063)
in New Brighton. If they are picked up elsewhere, nobody knows where they might be,
unless they have the identification chip.

Identification chips are available through veterinary clinics, animal food shops, etc.,
including Francis Animal & Bird Hospital at 1227 Larpenteur in Roseville.

Councilman Tom Kough
