Regular City Council Meeting <br /> Monday,August 27,2012 <br /> Page 2 <br /> from 5:30—8:30 p.m., with 100%of the ticket sales ($30 in advance or$40 at the door) <br /> going toward funding and support of the NYFS. <br /> Councilmember McGehee, in her personal effort to ensure accurate communication by <br /> the City, opined that the most recent City newsletter's front page erroneously stated that <br /> the City had actually saved money by bypassing a voter referendum to consider con- <br /> struction of a new fire station and park improvements. Councilmember McGehee <br /> opined that had the City chosen to have a voter referendum versus their choice to use its <br /> Port Authority power to issue the bonds, there would have been no changes in cost for a <br /> bond issue. Councilmember McGehee further opined that another portion of the article <br /> stating that the court had sided with the City was misleading, since the Court of Ap- <br /> peals chose not to hear the case since the citizen group was unable to post a surety bond <br /> in the amount required to do so. <br /> 5. Recognitions,Donations, Communications <br /> a. Minnesota Recreation and Parks Award of Excellence for Volunteer Initia- <br /> tives <br /> Assistant Parks and Recreation Director Jill Anfang introduced Mr. Jared <br /> Flewellen, MRPA Representative and Recreation Coordinator with the City of <br /> Hastings. Mr. Flewellen provided a brief history of the Awards of Excellence <br /> Program to recognize notable projects and programs. Mr. Flewellen presented <br /> the award to Mayor Roe on behalf of the City's Parks and Recreation Program; <br /> and recognized Roseville volunteers and Parks and Recreation staff for their <br /> tireless work to facilitate the Master Plan process. <br /> Johnson moved, McGehee seconded, authorizing the acceptance of the Minne- <br /> sota Recreation and Parks Association 2011 Award of Excellence for Volunteer <br /> Initiatives for the Parks and Recreation Master Plan Renewal Program in the <br /> Volunteer Initiatives category. <br /> Roll Call <br /> Ayes: Pust; McGehee; Willmus; Johnson; and Roe. <br /> Nays: None. <br /> On behalf of the community and City Council, Mayor Roe accepted the award <br /> and echoed comments of staff and volunteers during this process. <br /> Councilmember Willmus commended staff for their "hands-off' approach <br /> throughout this process, allowing it to be community- and citizen-driven; and <br /> creating a great process. <br /> 6.
