Roseville Human Rights Commission <br />May 16, 2012 - Draft Minutes <br />Page 7 of 8 <br />Chair Grefenberg said the Civic Engagement Task Force was holding awrap -up meeting on May 23 <br />League of Minnesota Human Rights Commission (LMHRC) <br />Commissioner Thelma McKenzie said she had spoken with teachers a4 in the Roseville Area <br />Schools about ways to collaborate. She said that four teachers would be getting back to her with <br />ideas for future topics in the essay contest. She encourage the youth commissioners to also come u <br />with ideas for next year's contest. <br />Commissioner McKenzie said that the League asked Roseville to host next year's celebration of the <br />winning essay contest winners, specifying April 27tn <br />Commissioner McKenzie described the LMHRC's most recent meeting to recognize the essay <br />contest winner. She noted that the Roseville student won this year, and Roseville students have won <br />nine of the 14 statewide essay contests. She thanked the area schools and said this is a reflection on <br />the quality of education in Roseville. <br />Commissioner McKenzie asked the youth commissioners to reco <br />2012/13. <br />Chair Grefenberg indicated that the topics for 2013 would be c <br />d essay contest questions for <br />fed at the June LMHRC board <br />meeting, and asked the Youth Commissioners to develop recommendations for the next <br />Commission meeting which was scheduled before the LMHRC meeting. <br />Youth Commissioners asked to see essay contest questions from previous years. The Chair asked <br />staff to send such a list to the Youth Commissioners and Commissioner Thao. <br />Staff Report <br />Carolyn Curti said the HRC distributed pencils at last year's Rose Parade. The HRC then spent <br />$145 for 500 pencils, and ran out of the pencils rather quickly. Commissioners <br />discussed how much to spend this year out of the approximately $1,300 r _ remaining in <br />the HRC annual budget. <br />Curti also explained the general arrangements for this year's Rosefest parade. <br />Commissioner Brisbois moved and Commissioner Groff seconded motion to spend up to $200 for <br />pencils with HRC motto for the Rose Parade. Motion prevailed unanimously. <br />
