This unit would be responsible for the <br />physical fitness program and testing of department personnel, and maintaining and <br />operating the physical fitness facilities. <br />EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE UNIT: This unit would consist of a civilian unit head, an assistant, <br />and a secretary. The Employee Assistance Unit would be responsible for securing counsel- <br />ing, troubled employee direction, and support group facilities. <br />The following is � description of the units making up the fifth section: <br />CENTRAL SUPPLY: Central Supply would consist of a civilian unit head, an assistant, a <br />secretary and two additional employees. The Central Supply Unit would be responsible for <br />the purchase and issuance of all materials used bythe department with exciusion of weapons <br />and ammunition. This wouid include, but not be limited to, uniforms, office supplies, <br />manuals, first aid supplies, and other police related items. <br />FLEET: The F'leet Unit would consist of a civilian unit head, a secretary, and four additional <br />er�ployees. The Fleet Unifi would be responsible for the purchase and upkeep of the county <br />police force fleet. <br />RADIO SHOP: The Radio Shop will have one civilia.n unit head, one secretary, and three <br />additional employees. The Radio Shop will be respQnsible for the installation and maint� <br />nance of squad and hand-held radios and other related items. <br />BUILDING MAINTENANCE: At this particular point in time the physical demeanor of the <br />county police force are unknown. Therefore, it is not possible to reasonably project the <br />amount of personnel needed for adequate building maintenance. This should be a civilianized <br />function. <br />PROPERTY U1�TIT: The Property Unit would consist of one unit commander. a secretary, and <br />four additional employees. The Property Uni# would operate during day shift hours and <br />some afternoon hours. It would be the responsibility of the Property Unit to store evidence, <br />and release evidence as deemed �ecessary for the county police force. The Property Unit <br />would also be responsible for conducting auctions as deemed necessary. <br />The employee numbers on the preceding pages have been made through the use of activity <br />projections based on current warkloads and manpower. Adjustments would have to be <br />made as needed. Many of these units, and parts of units could be made up of different classed <br />civilian employees to defray costs. Sworn personnel should only be used where necessary to <br />insure high level function. It is suggested that prior to consolidation a more i�t�epth study <br />be made to balance sworn and non-sworn personnel. <br />29 <br />
