� <br />DEP�t#2ThE�i�T: Pubi i c 1•lorics <br />PQ�ICY TITLE: Weed Contral <br />�ACKGROU��D STATE�1Ef•JT: The existance o� unsightly and unmaintained ground <br />c�ver vegetation is a constantly reoccurring situation throughout the tilorm <br />weather periods. This situation is particular�y prevalent in undeveloped <br />and vacant propert�es. The uncontrol]ed growth €requently generates the <br />gro�ivth o� rroxi ous 1}leeds that are detri mental to the i3ea1 th and comfort of <br />segments ot the citizenry. In addition, th� situation is generally regarded <br />as unsightly and a blighting influence on the surrounding area. <br />POLICY SiATEPrt�VT: Upon notification of suspected weed situations, the City <br />Weed inspector promptly investigates the compla3nt to determine if State or <br />City regulations are being vio�ated and moves to eliminate the weeds in ac- <br />cordance with the provisions af these regulatians. <br />PROCEt3f�RE STATEt4�«T : Wi thi n two +�rorlci ng days o�F recei vi ng a+r�eed compl ai nt, <br />the Code Enforcement De�artment visually inspects ii�e area and makes a de- <br />terR�ination of �he situation based on training and experience. If �ither <br />tF�e State Statute or city code is fau�ci to be viola�ted, ti�e following s�eps <br />� wauld be followed until the weeds are brough� into com�liance: <br />� <br />1) The ot�rner is contacted and verbal3y reque5ted to have the <br />problem al1eviated avithin 3 to 5 days. <br />2} A registered letter containing a co�y of S�a�e Departmen� <br />of Agricuiiure Form 415-1 is mailed ardering the weeds des- <br />troyed s•rithin three {3) days. <br />3) A pre-screened private coniractor is aut�rorized ta cu� t�ie <br />weeds by issuing Sta�e Department of Agriculture Form 4. <br />The private contxactor w�uld then bill the a�wncx.
