The shrub layer varies from moderaEely sparse in portions of the south segment to very thick in <br />the north. The most common shrub is the nonnative European buckthorn, which is found as <br />mature shrubs, saplings, and as a carpet of seedlings in other areas_ Natives found in the shrub <br />layer at Ieast occasionaliy include boxelder saplings, black raspberry, common elderberry, black <br />cherry, and prickly gooseberry. <br />The grour�d layer is somewhat species poor, but is largely composed of native species. The most <br />common of these include Pennsylvania sedge, Virginia creeper, white snakeroot, enchanter's <br />nightshade, poison ivy, and false Solomon's seal. The most prominent nonnative forb here is <br />deadly nightshade, which is found only occasionally. <br />4vera1l, this community is of moderate quality, but has good potential for recovery if actively <br />mana�ed.
