City of Roseville Class Title: Working Title: Department: Lieuteflant �perations Commander Police Accountable to: C6ief of Police POSITION SLJMMA�y Position Responsibility May,1997 Plan and direct the police patrol function. To oversee and coordinate special response units such as Tactical and Crune Impact. The Lieutenant is responsible for supe�-vising , assigning and evaluating i6e police sergeants assigned to patro� and exercises general supervision over subordinate officers. Performs specialized duties as assigned by the Chief of Police, and will assume responsibility for departmental operations in the absence of the Chief or Deputy Chief of Police in order to protect lives and property, prevent and detect crime, investigate crime for successful prosecution, provide emergency services, enforce Iaws and ordinances and maintain public arder. DUT�ES AND RESPONSIBII,ITI�S *1. Plans, organizes, and directs a11 police patrol operations. Determines priorities and objectives, designs, recommends and implements policies and procedures within Gmits outlined by the Chief of Police. *2. Coordinates all activity by t�e patrol teams; ensures that work is effectively and safely condncted thraugh adherence to department policies, procedures, administrative directives and staffing requiremeats. 3. Periodically reviews patrol reports prepared 6y se�bordinate officers, and occasionally attends and observes roll call sessions to stay abrcast of subordinate needs. *4. Responds to major incidents and assumes tactical command as necessary and appropriate. Provides assistance and guidance to subordinates in difficult ar problem sifuations. *5. Supervises and sapports patroi sergeanfs in their assigned duties; conducts performance evaluations for assigned personnel and administers positive and punitive discipline as uecessary.
