CITY OF ROSEVILLE <br />JOB DESCRIPTION <br />Updated: June, 1994 <br />Position Title: Palice Officer <br />Department: Police Department <br />�ccountable to: Police Sergeant <br />Primary Objective of Position <br />To enforce State and Federal laws and City ordinances; to conduct <br />preliminary and follow-up investigations of incidents, traffic <br />accidents and crimes; to protect life and property; to prevent <br />crime; to promote community reZations; to provide the highest <br />level of service to residents and visitors; to perform all duties <br />within the guidelines, policies, procedures, rules, and <br />regulations set forth by the Department. <br />Major Areas_of Accountabilitv � <br />., • <br />*1. Patrol and Protective Services: Patrols assigned.. areas <br />observing and making contact with a�l segments..of the <br />popuiation. Maintains fami�iarity with streets, businesses, <br />persons, v.ehicles and hazards. Investigates circumstances <br />which appear out of the ordinary to prevent harjn to persons <br />and damage or loss of property. Uses selective and <br />saturation patrol for trouble spots and high crime activ�ty. <br />Enforces traffic laws. <br />*2. Ma�ntaining Public Order: Maintains public order by <br />intervening to stop ongoing or potential violence a�d by <br />mediating disputes. <br />*3. Peaceful Assemblv: Protects the rights af free speech and <br />� peaceful assembly and ensures orderly flow and access of <br />traffic. <br />*4 Investigations: Conducts investigations, processes evidence <br />and takes an active part in bringing the case to a <br />conc3usion. Processes the scenes of cr�mes and accidents so <br />that evidence is l.acated, identi�fied, and preserved. <br />Interviews witnesses and suspects within legal parameters to <br />obtain all information necessary to bringing the case to a <br />conclusion. Periodically contacts and updates complainant <br />regarding dispositian of the complaint. Ensures that <br />property and evidence is retux-ned to its rightful owner upon <br />final disposition of the case. <br />
