Police Officer Job Description <br />Page 2 <br />*5. Community Relations: Seeks to gain support and cooperation <br />with the police function; protects a professional image of <br />the department and profession; participates in and plans <br />crime prev�ntion and community safety programs; gives prompt <br />and courteous service to residents and visitors; speaks to <br />interested groups about police wark and related subjects; <br />assists in demonstrations of police equipment and/or methods <br />for interested groups; cooperates with ride�along program; <br />cu�tivates professional relationships with other City <br />departments, community residents and businesspersons, and <br />outside agencies. <br />6. �rime Pr�vention: Supports and pramotes crime prevention in <br />contacts with the public; gathers as much detailed <br />information in reports as poss�ble so as to maintain <br />accurate and detaiZed statistics. <br />7. S ecial Assi nments: Performs other duties, assumes special <br />- assignments, and accepts additional responsibilities as <br />directed by the supervisor, Deputy Chief, or Ch�ef of <br />Police. Adjusts routine tour of duty to meet unexpected <br />needs af the Department. <br />� <br />KnawledQe and Skill Req�ired � . <br />Knowledge of Federal, State, and local laws and procedures. <br />Knowledge af local geography. <br />Skil1 in the use of firearms and other police weapons. <br />Ability to understand and carry out complex directions. <br />Abi�ity to treat the publ.ic with tact and courtesy, or when the <br />occasion demands it, with firmness. � <br />Ability to withstand adverse weather conditions. <br />Ability ta react quickly and calmly in emergency situations. <br />AbiZity to exercise an appropriate degree of confidentiality and <br />discretion in regard to investigations and nonpublic information. <br />Completion of a law enforcement program at a two or four year <br />P.O.S.T. cert�.fied institution; successiul completion af all <br />steps necessary for P.O.S.T. licensing; United States citizen; <br />valid Minnesota Driver's License or valid driver's license in any <br />state contiguous to Minnesota; no felony convictions in any <br />state; physical and psychological capabi�a.ties necessary to <br />function in a law enforcement capacity. <br />* indicates Essential Job Functions <br />5 <br />
