Chair Grefenberg said the HRC would get the Civic
Engagement Task Force report at the September meeting. He would like a reception or event to
thank participants for their work; he suggested that the costs should be limited to no more than
$175. Chair Grefenberg and Commissioner Thao agreed to plan a reception and include task force
members, HRC and Council members.
Commissioner Singleton also asked staff to prepare certificates thanking the various task force
members for their contributions.
Committee Reports
Operations Committee: The Committee had not met. Chair Grefenberg asked staff to organize a
meeting between the committee and City Manager Bill Malinen to discuss the Commission's
bylaws and the proposal for a uniform commission code.
Outreach Committee: Committee member Wayne Groff reported that Maplewood is planning a
voter id amendment forum on October 9 and a marriage amendment forum on October 23. Motion passed unanimously.
Several commissioners discussed whether the HRC hold a voter ID forum, noting several efforts the
HRC already was involved. Commissioner Thao said she felt the HRC has not done much on the
issue and would only agree if commissioners agreed to be intentional about promoting the
Maplewood forum. She asked that commissioners do more than-the standard HRC outreach efforts.
Chair Grefenberg moved and Commissioner poneen seconded motion to offer $50 to Maplewood
to co-sponsor the voter id amendment forum.
