<br />REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br /> Date: 11/19/12 <br /> Item No.: <br />Department Approval City Manager Approval <br /> <br />Item Description: Continue Discussions on the 2013 Tax Levy and Budget <br /> <br />Page 1 of 4 <br />B ACKGROUND 1 <br />In 2011, the City Council committed to a 2-year budge t process which included the adoption of the 2 <br />2012/2013 Budget last December. It was noted at the tim e that State Statute requires cities to formally 3 <br />adopt a budget on an annual basis. As a result, th e 2013 portion of the Budget a dopted by the Council last 4 <br />year essentially serves as a preliminary budget and pl anning tool in conjunction with other long-term goal 5 <br />setting and strategic planning proce sses. The Council will need to formally adopt the final 2013 Budget 6 <br />and Tax Levy in December, 2012. 7 <br /> 8 <br />To date, the City Council has had numerous discussions on the 2013 Tax Levy and Budget.
