He noted neither was able to attend. <br />234 <br />235 <br />236 <br />237 <br />238 <br />239 <br />240 <br />241 <br />Commissioner Groff questioned how the HRC could serve to bridge communication between the <br />Police Department and the public. <br />Chair Grefenberg commented it was not the HRC's task to investigate matters, but instead to <br />discuss human rights activities. He thanked Chief Mathwig for attending this evening and <br />requested further information on the traffic stop. <br />242 Chief Mathwig discussed the event in detail stating those interested in gathering more <br />243 information on the matter could always contact the Police Department to ask for further details <br />244 on the traffic stop. He explained it was be beneficial for the public to gain this information first <br />245 hand and not through hearsay. He stated the Community Resource Coordinator would be <br />246 another resource for public questions. <br />247 <br />248 Commissioner Brisbois asked how she should respond to those seeking more information on this <br />249 event. Chief Mathwig encouraged her to direct the public to call the main Police Department <br />250 number and speak to the head of the patrol unit. <br />251 <br />252 Chair Grefenberg explained the Commission was responsible to develop programs with formal <br />253 and informal education that will assist against discrimination and recognize potential problem <br />254 areas in the community. He was pleased this matter was discussed by the Commission but did <br />255 not see that any further action from the HRC was necessary. He thanked Chief Mathwig for <br />256 being present this evening and addressing the Commission's comments. <br />257 <br />258 <br />259 <br />260 <br />261 <br />262 <br />New Business <br />Commissioner Kevin Lindsey, Minnesota Department of Human Rights, on Amending the State <br />Constitution: the Voter ID and Marriage Amendments (Time Certain 7:10 p.m.) <br />263 Chair Grefenberg stated Commissioner Kevin Lindsey was present this evening to discuss <br />264 amending the State Constitution regarding Voter ID's and the Marriage Amendment. He then <br />265 introduced himself to Mr. Lindsey noting he was from the Iron Range. Each Commissioner took <br />266 <br />267 <br />268 <br />269 <br />270 <br />the time to introduce themselves along with their interest in human rights issues. <br />Mayor Dan Roe addressed the group stating he was working to represent, serve and understand <br />the entire community. This made human rights issues a concern for him. <br />271 Commissioner Kevin Lindsey thanked the HRC for their time and explained he was an <br />272 employment back�;round as a law attorney in the Twin Cities. He noted he also sits on the Public <br />273 Housing Authority in St. Paul, where he lives. Commissioner Lindsey indicated he was involved <br />
