January 16, 2013
Item 6
Program Planning Report
and Attachments
If funded, we will work with Art of Hosting facilitator Ariella Tilsen to help develop and plan, and to
facilitate these two community dialogues. As per her website, Arie(la is a chane consultant, conflict
reso(ver, trainer, and (eadership coach who works across sectors, cultures, and enerations. She
he(ps communities, organizations, and individua(s tap into what makes them most dynamic, even in
their conflicts, then helps them focus on what they most want to row or chane. She has worked
extensive(y with organizations of a(l sizes, including multinationa( companies, state and local
governments, internationa( NGOs, and organizations in health care, philanthropy, socia( justice, the
arts, and community service. She has consu(ted with a wide spectrum of leaders, from elected
officia(s to corporate executives to community leaders. We feel she is well qualified and perfectly
suited for facilitating the dialogues we are proposing in Roseville.
In addition, we will reach out to the following stakeholders to assist with and/or participate in the
dialogues:
• Roseville staff, including Carolyn Curti, Roseville Communications Specialist, and Corey Yunke, Roseville
Community Relations Coordinator
• Roseville City Council
• Roseville Human Rights Commission
• Roseville Police Department
• Roseville Neighborhood Block Captains
• Roseville Nextdoor.com Neighborhood Leads
• ISD 623, including Karen Schuab, Community Education & Public Relations
• Roseville school students
• Leaders of area religious organizations
• Members of the community
As mentioned above, the Roseville Human Rights Commission (heretofare identified as HRC) has
coordinated successful community dialogues in the past, however none have been guided by an Art of
Hosting facilitator. We expect the participatory emphasis of InCommons is in alignment with this
topical conversation and will lend an effective methodology to the process.
Given that there is an emerging movement to build neighborhood cohesion and community
connectedness in Roseville, as evidenced in the HRC's Civic Engagement and Neighborhood
Participation Task Force, we hope these events will inspire participants to work in their neighborhoods
to help prevent future violence and foster healthy communities.
We feel the HRC is well suited for this supporting these dialogues because it: a) has hosted community
dialogues in the past, b) has eXisting channels to local government officials, c) has a positive history of
working with the Roseville Police Department and the Roseville School District and School Board, d)
can contribute a small budget to supplement this program and fund its continuation as other community-
wide concerns and events warrant, and e) has a committed band of volunteers available to work on this
program and move towards its implementation.
I thank you for considering our proposal and look forward to hearing from you soon.
Sincerely,
Program Planning Committee Report of January 16, 2013 6
