Waste Flow Designation <br />A requirement by a county or waste management district that all or any <br />portion of the solid waste that is generated within its boundaries or any <br />service area thereof be delivered to a processing or disposal facility <br />identified by the district or county. (Minn. Stat. §115A.81, Subd. 2) <br />Waste Management <br />Activities which are intended to affect or control the generation of waste <br />and activities which provide for or control the collection, processing and <br />disposal of waste. (Minn. Stat. §115A.03, Subd. 36) <br />Waste Management <br />A ranking of waste management methods or of preference practices in the <br />Hierarchy (Order of <br />order in which they are the preferred method or practice. Informally <br />Preference) <br />referred to as the "waste management hierarchy." Minn. Stat. §115A.02 <br />establishes the following order of preference for waste management: 1) <br />waste reduction and reuse; 2) waste recycling; 3) composting of yard <br />waste and food waste; 4) resource recovery through mixed municipal solid <br />waste composting or incineration; 5) land disposal which produces no <br />measurable methane gas or which involves the retrieval of methane gas as <br />a fuel for the production of energy to be used on -site or for sale; and 6) <br />land disposal which produces measurable methane gas and which does <br />not involve the retrieval of methane gas as a fuel for the production of <br />energy to be used on -site or for sale. <br />Waste Management Act <br />Chapter 115A of State Statutes which governs waste management <br />activities in the State of Minnesota. Adopted in 1980 and amended by <br />subsequent legislation. Some other sections of State Statutes also affect <br />solid waste management, but are technically not part of the Waste <br />Management Act. <br />Waste Reduction <br />See Source Reduction. <br />Yard Waste <br />Soft - bodied garden wastes such as leaves, lawn cuttings, and weeds, and <br />other waste such as shrub and tree waste, and pruning clippings.
