Appendix B <br />Study Design <br />The study design included the following critical steps: <br />• Select the material categories; <br />• Define the recyclable materials sort protocol; <br />• Develop a Health and Safety Plan; <br />• Conduct the sampling and sorting events; <br />• Compile the collected data, and <br />• Develop the results using a statistical model. <br />Material Categories <br />The Project Team and City staff discussed and agreed upon the composition analysis <br />categories for the recyclable materials sorts. During the sorting events, each sample of <br />recyclable materials was sorted into thirteen categories listed below in Table 2. For <br />reference, the definitions of the composition analysis categories can be found in <br />Attachment B -1. <br />Table 2 <br />City of Roseville <br />Composition Analysis Categories <br />1. Other Trash (i.e., non - recyclable items <br />such as twine, foam packaging, <br />ceramics, mirrors, aerosol cans, <br />medical waste, etc.) <br />Recyclable Materials Sort Protocol <br />The Project Team developed a recyclable materials composition sort protocol. The <br />detailed composition protocol is included in Attachment B -2. The protocol addresses <br />the following: <br />■ Planning & Equipment/Facilities Preparation; <br />■ Truck Weighing & Load Tipping Operations; and <br />B-2 B1605 <br />
