As wth any volunteer organ+zation experiencing sigificant change, particularly
one without the benefit of paid staff, overcoming challenges take a considerab[e amaunt ofi time, understanding,
and patience.
Our dear friend and colleague, Father Dave Galius fram the Mille Lacs Area Human Rights Commissin, who
served as the League's Treasurer resigned in June because of inedical issues. He passed away in early December
and wi11 be sorely misseci by many. In late September the League's President, Cameron Cegelske from the St. Paul
Fiuman Rights &. Equa[ Economic Opportunity Commission, resigneci from the Boarci because or iusiness
responsibilities.
I am pleased to announce that Patricia Nelson, from tfe Minneapolis Civil Rights Commission, took over Father
Gallus' position as Treasurer. As the Leagues Bylaws provide and as Vice President, 1 assumed the Presicfency. I
have served on the Chaska Hurrian Rights Commission for eight years, seven as chairperson, and have servec! on
the League's Boarc! af Directors for five years. Molly Koiumaki, also from the Chaska Commission, was elected
Vice President at the League's October meeting. She brings a unique perspective to the Board, as she is the staff
liaison for the Eden Prairie Humn Rights Commis5ion.
ur pecernber Annual Meeting was cancelled; however we have plans to hald a Special Merrtber Meeting on
Saturday, February 23 at the American Red Cross headquarters in Minneapolis. Please note the date and plan to
send at least one representative from your Commission/Cammittee to vote on your behalf. Specific details will
follow as they become available.
7he League has almost taken controi of our website. Our long-time host was reluctant to turn aver our domain
name, but after many long discussions we believe that we are ery close to making #hat transition. In the pracess;
however, our League email that had been working so well crashed. Our new Marketing and Communications
Committee Chair, Hassanen Mohamed #rom the 8roolclyn Park Human Rights Commissian, is working d9ligently to
improve our communications to you. On a postive note, the Reague's telephone now rolls over to a cell phone. !f
I am avaifabfe, I will aswer it.
The League also had a number of successes this year. We acfapted several policy statements and revised the
League's Bylaws to make our processes more strear-nlined ard pratticai.
