REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION Date: February 25, 2013 Item No.: 13.d Department Approval City Manager Approval Item Description: 2013 Legislative Agenda Page 1 of 1 B ACKGROUND 1 Annually, City Council and staff identify issues th at could be brought forward to the Minnesota 2 Legislature to address during the state legislature session. For the city of Roseville, these issues 3 have included: local option sales tax authority, continued authority for housing improvement 4 areas, data requests for residents’ contact information and impact fees. 5 Each year the League of Minnesota Cities (L MC) and Metro Cities (Association of Metropolitan 6 Municipalities) ask cities for input on legislative ideas and areas of concern to safeguard the best 7 interests of Minnesota cities. They then identify legislative goals to address the concerns. 8 Based on that input from municipalities, the LMC and Metro Cities have identified several 9 legislative initiatives that they will be working on this legislative session, and they include the 10 aforementioned local option sales tax, housing impr ovement areas, data requests for residents’ 11 contact information, impact fees and other areas of interest to Roseville. 12 13 P OLICY O BJECTIVE 14 Ensure that the needs and concerns of the residents of the City of Roseville are addressed at 15 Minnesota Legislature. 16 F INANCIAL I MPACTS 17 None 18 S TAFF R ECOMMENDATION 19 Authorize staff and Council to work with Roseville’s legislative delegation and the Minnesota 20 Legislature to support the legislative goals of the League of Minnesota Cities and Metro Cities 21 on issues of interest to the City of Roseville. 22 R EQUESTED C OUNCIL A CTION 23 Authorize staff and Council to work with Roseville’s legislative delegation and the Minnesota 24 Legislature to support the legislative goals of the League of Minnesota Cities and Metro Cities 25 on issues of interest to the City of Roseville. 26 27 Prepared by: William J.
