Human Rights Commission Meeting Minutes January 16, 2013 Commissioners: Scot Becker, Vice Chair Jill Brisbois, Chair Gary Grefenberg, Wayne Groff, David Singleton and Kaying Thao Youth Commissioners: Joan Dao, Julia Laden and Marie Siliciano (arriving at approximately 7:30pm) Commissioners Absent: Kristin Doneen (excused) Staff Present: Carolyn Curti and City Manager Bill Malinen Also Present for part of the meeting: Megan Dushin, Greg Simbeck, and Mary Lou Mohn Call to Order The Human Rights Commission (HRC) meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. Chair Grefenberg requested staff call the roll. Approve Agenda Commissioner Singleton moved and Commissioner Groff seconded a motion to approve the agenda as revised adding a Citation of Appreciation. Motion passed unanimously. Kudos to Police Department for Recognition from Karen Community: Chair Grefenberg indicated that this item had been moved up on the agenda in order not to inconvenience the Roseville Police Department. He congratulated and recognized the Roseville Police Department for their work with the Karen Community. He appreciated the fact that the City's civil service employees were reaching out to a newly- arrived minority community whose previous experience in their original homeland had not endeared them to the police. Roseville Police Lt. Scott Williams introduced himself to the group. Chair Grefenberg then read a certificate commending the Roseville Police Department for the work supporting the Karen Community. He said the Human Rights Commission appreciated the work of Lt. Williams and the entire Police Department. Approve Minutes Commissioner Brisbois moved and Commissioner Singleton seconded a motion to approve the November 28, 2012 meeting minutes as amended. Motion passed unanimously. Public Comment There being no one present wishing to speak to the Commission on an item not on the agenda, the chair moved to the next agenda item.
