Figure 14 displays the impaired waters <br />map and Table 5 summarizes each of the water body impairments. Section 303(d) of the <br />Federal Clean Water Act (CWA) requires that states establish total maximum daily loads <br />(TMDLs) of pollutants to water bodies that do not meet water quality standards. <br />TMDLs are the maximum amount of a pollutant that a waterbody can receive and still meet <br />water quality standards. TMDL also refers to the process of allo <br />among point and nonpoint sources. Each TMDL includes an implementation plan that <br />establishes a list of actions that will be needed to manage the pollutant(s) with the goal of <br />eliminating the impairment.
