PRELIMINARY RECORD—FOR DISCUSSION ONLY <br />ROSEVILLE HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION <br />Community Dialogue on the Prevention of Violence <br />April 30, 2013 <br />Question #1: When have you experienced being in community, and felt safe and <br />connected in your community, however you define community? <br />(yellow post-it notes) <br />1. White Male Stereotypes make me feel not being in the community, and I realize that the <br />reverse, Young Black Male Stereotypes, may have the same impact on those that ostensibly fit <br />that stereotype. <br />2. Being responsible. <br />3. Know your neighbors — take the time to engage them. <br />4. Host a block party. <br />5. Community and safety — get to know your neighbors. <br />6. Protect rights of special ed. or mental illness people. <br />7. Get "new' residents involved and engaged is important to keeping communication and safety. <br />8. We need to create a way to connect and engage the new residents. <br />9. Getting all populations at the table during these conversations ie, bigger, diverse citizen group. <br />10. Having kids and going to sports/extra-curricular/school activities foster meeting up with other <br />their parents. <br />11. Intentional community gatherings and gathering places where people can get to know neighbors <br />and build a sense of trust and safety. <br />12. There is a strong sense of community and of feeling safe among the people here. Now the <br />challenge is to bring non-represented, diverse groups, into the conversation and make <br />connections between and among them. <br />13. Maintaining a sense of community. <br />14. It is important for adults to connect with other children, and for their parent to feel safe and <br />open to that. <br />15. We feel safe in the community 99 percent of the time. Marvelous place to live. <br />16. Addressing celebration and engaging the communities of color in Roseville in a respectful <br />inclusive way. <br />17. Have to intentionallv �et to�ether.
