Roseville, MN - Official Website
on a limited piece of property; and questioned why square footage
considerations were not part of the EAW to meet those rules and
thresholds, with buildings and specific locations clearly identified. Ms.
McGehee opined that part of the problem was with City Code and policies
governing land use issues, and the entire review process; and further
opined that this EAW was meaningless.
Ms. McGehee addressed the proposed location of the new dormitory to be
located too close to the shoreland.
Mayor Klausing noted that the latest revised proposal had relocated the
dorm to the other side of the existing dorm.
Ms. McGehee opined that this proved her point, that nothing in the
document was firm; there were no final designs; no known square
footages; and noted that the applicant "was so sure no one would look at
this, they included the 1986 design for the dorm into the 2007 EAW."
Ms. McGehee questioned the actual environmental stewardship being
done on campus; amount of acreage reserved for cover and vegetation
for habitat as requested by the Department of Natural Resources (DNR);
and questioned the actual acreage claimed by the College for forest and
woodland.
Curt Tally, 3 blocks from campus
Mr. Tally advised that he frequently walked the campus; and noted that
students and professors had recently removed Buckthorn on campus,
providing evidence to him that there was a concern of students and staff
for the environment. Mr. Tally opined that no College was perfect;
however, rather than distrust, he chose to trust that the College was
increasing their commitment to reducing on global warming and other
environmental concerns, not just on campus and regionally, but
worldwide, similar to that being done by other businesses.
Marie Churchward, 3093 Asbury
Ms. Churchward expressed her concerns for increased noise, recognizing
that growth and expansion were natural and would probably continue.
Ms. Churchward opined the need for the City to continue to grow, and
that residents were needed to provide input into the City's future. Ms.
Churchward noted the ongoing efforts of the College in negotiating with
neighbors and addressing their concerns. Ms. Churchward read a
prepared statement, in which she encouraged "all to be good stewards
and protectors, and to take charge of the land around us; to be sensitive
and provide a rightful balance to the future.
http://www. ci.roseville.mn.us/archive.asp?AMID=&Type=&ADID=23 0
Page 6 of 16
09/24/2007
