We are writing now to express our concerns with
this proposal and hope that a suitable compromise can be reached in the early planning
stages.
Autumn Street is one of the most wonderful streets in the city. It features a mix of
original residents, professional individuals and couples, and families. Indeed, there are
no fewer than twenty-five children living on Autumn Street. From spring to autumn, the
extremely low traffic allows the street to host nightly bike rallies, ball games, street
hockey, and more. The unanimous view of the residents is that we are very fortunate to
have what we have in Autumn Street and want no diminution of what we enjoy.
We are not insensitive to the needs of the property owner at 1901 Lexington. We enjoy
the multi-use district at Lexington and Roselawn and the various "destination" businesses
that the City has found fit to allow to locate there. These include a hardware store, a
realtor, professional offices, and most recently a bookstore. The residents of Autumn
Street are among the most frequent and loyal patrons of these businesses. We are not
unappreciative of their role in our community and we are not viscerally opposed to the
harmonious development of this intersection's vitality.
However, across the entire neighbarhood, from Democrats to Republicans, there is one
unanimous concern• the use of the south side of the building at 1901 Lexinton and any
attempt intended or unintended to intensifv the use of the Autumn Street, an R-1
residential street as a route for automobile traffic to the business located there.
We are focused especially on the two patches of asphalt on the south side that form a
small parking area, which, if ever in compliance with city code, is not a necessary part of
the business in any way and represents the potential for a serious invasion of the quiet
