Bryan Lloyd
From:
Sent:
To:
Subject:
- .
David Marks [david.marks2@comcast.net]
Wednesday, July 18, 2007 9:31 PM
Bryan Lloyd
Variance Request
We currently own three vehicles, and soon will have additional drivers in our household,
with additional vehicles. The vehicles could be parked on the street, but this creates
obstructions for oncoming vehicles making it harder to see children who often play in the
street. The apron will provide additional offstreet parking area and allow the additional
vehicles to be parked in the driveway and next to the garage.
We own an RV. The RV could be parked on the street, but would be a nuisance and again
creates an obstruction for children who may play in the street, is less secure in the
street, and negatively impacts the appearance of the neighborhood.. The RV will be parked
next to the garage, eventually enclosed by a fence, making it less visible and more
secure. City ordinance requires RVs to be parked on a paved surface.
The current driveway is 16 feet wide. Two vehicles parked side by side require stepping
into the grass. During the winter, it requires plowing part of the grass in order to
make the driveway wide enough to exit a vehicle. The apron will widen the driveway,
making it easier and safer to exit vehicles.
We also own a motorcycle trailer. This trailer will also be parked on the apron next to
the garage, eventually enclosed by a fence, improving appearance of our property and the
neighborhood.
Our children currently play basketball in the street. The additional driveway space will
also provide a larger area for children to play basketball in the driveway, rather than in
the street.
I would also like to go to 1 foot from the property line, rather than 2 feet. I have 10
feet from the side of my garage to my property line.
Leaving 2 feet from the property line allows an 8 foot wide surface.
Standard for most parking spaces is a 9 foot wide space. An eight foot wide surface
leaves little space on each side for an aisle, especially for larger vehicles. In the
summer people will have to walk on the grass, and in the winter the non-paved surface
will need to be cleared for walking.
Also, garbage cans will be stored near the end of the garage. The additional cement will
provides enough paved space to move the garbage cans
alongside vehicles via paved area. Eventually there will also be a fence
the length of the garage on the east side. My neighbor is has no problem
with the cement closer to the lot line.
Thank You.
David Marks
1
