March 6, 2008
Bryan Lloyd
2660 Civic Center Drive
Roseville, MN 55113
Dear Mr. Lloyd,
I have received your notice about the Setback Permit requested for 1834 Eldridge Ave.
by the Rhees. I own the house directly across the street at 1833 Eldridge Ave. and object
to this proposal for several reasons.
I strongly believe the current rules exist for good reasons including property and
neighborhood appearance, noise control, etc. and should not be altered except in extreme
cases. This is not one, as there is ample room for any development to the rear of this
house, which would not affect the view from the street. The current spacing between
homes on Eldridge should be maintained to keep the peoperty values up, and make police
and fire protection easier.
Once granted, a variance has to be lived with forever, even when properties change hands
and the new owners might never have desired it. It often stimulates people to request
more variances, the domino effect, that become harder to turn down..
Personally, it would partially block my view of homes on Skillman, to the south. I enjoy
being able to see them, and it was especially helpful during power failures on Eldridge so
we could see if the outage was only our street or more widespread.
This addition, in my opinion, would give the house a strange footprint, to say the least. I
can' t imagine a 42 '/2 foot long kitchen jutting out of the side of the house, and don't
think that would enhance the properly value..
So my objections are on general principles, the need to maintain current home spacing,
home and neighborhood appearance and property values.
I am friends with the Rhees, and have discussed this proposal with John in the past and
told him of my objections, and the reasons for them.
Sincerely,
i, , < , %
. Cc-,FjL_ ', ,C/iJu
Dolores M.
