He indicated that he had told the Karen that the
Human Rights Commission was committed to addressing their issues and if they agreed would
work with them on a community dialogue for this fall to address their issues.
Grefenberg concluded by expressing his appreciation to the Roseville Police Department for
their organizing this forum, which far him was one of the most significant and personally
fulfilling aspects of his human rights work. He also note that the Police Department was
considering sponsoring a forum on domestic violence, a concern important to this community.
Committee and Other Reports
Program Planning: Committee Chair poneen had nothing additional to report.
Outreach: Committee member Brisbois had nothing additional to report.
Youth Engagement: Youth Commissioner Marie Siliciano indicated the youth commissioners
were interested in following up on some of the issues brought up at the recent community
dialogues, such as the cultural fest.
Chair Grefenberg requested Youth Commissioners continue their efforts on the upcoming parade
to encourage minorities to attend.
Commissioner Groff questioned the date of the parade. Carolyn Curti noted the parade would be
held on June 24th. She asked if the essay contest winners should be invited to attend. The
Commission was in favor of this suggestion.
Curti also asked whether the Commission also wished to purchase pencils imprinted with the
HRC's name and motto (ed note: Promoting Neighborhoods that Welcome Diversity). Chair
Grefenberg moved and Vice Chair Brisbois seconded a motion to authorize staff to spend no
more than $250 for the purchase pencils for the parade. Motion passed unanimously.
League of Minnesota Human Rights Commissions: Chair Grefenberg noted the League of
Minnesota Human Rights Commission would meet this Sunday at noon, possibly in Red Wing.
He stated he would not be able to attend, and questioned whether any other Commissioner would
attend as his alternate.
Vice-chair Brisbois indicated she had been planning on it, and asked whether mileage
reimbursement would be covered by the City. Carolyn Curti said that she would be reimbursed
for her mileage expenses.
Chair Grefenberg requested staff forward him and Vice Chair Brisbois the meeting agenda and
confirm the location.
Staff Report
