Attachment D
From: Bryan Lloyd
Sent: Friday, October 10, 2008 10:06 AM
To:
Subject: Vanance application
Good morning.
I'm reviewing your variance application to get my hands around the extent of the variance
that will be necessary. One of the parts to the variance would be allowance of excess
impervious coverage: in addition to the house footprint, diveway, and proposed addition,
what is the surface area of any sidewalks and patios at your home?
Also, an important piece of your variance application is your description of the
"hardship" you're facing. The Variance Board can't approve a variance unless you help them
understand why the requirements of the City Code don't work properly - or can't be applied
fairly - to your property. It may just be a couple of written or typed paragraphs, but the
description really is important to the variance process.
Please don't hesitate to email or call me if you have any questions.
Bryan Lloyd
Associate City Planner
City of Roseville
651-792-7073
bryan.11oyd@ci.roseville.mn.us
[In a follow-up phone conversation, Mr. Redish asked additional questions about what "hardship"
means. Mr. Lloyd attempted to better clarify the issue, indicated that true hardship conditions are rare,
and encouraged the applicant to give more thought to what the hardship conditions might be on his
property and to fall back on emphasizing the reasonableness of the proposal if he were unable to
demonstrate a real hardship.]
.-. -
