We
have additional information related to our rain garden.
We have decided to put our rain garden in an area of the yard that will be both
aesthetically pleasing to look at and a functional way to help protect water quality. Our
property seems to be composed of part dirt and part clay but after completing some soil
tests our rain garden location will be a success.
We will add additional top soil when we plant. The garden will be 19' x 10' or 190 sq
feet in diameter and it will be in direct line of the garage down spot. The water will be
channeled to the rain garden by drain tile or pvc. We have determined the slope entering
the garden to be 2.7 so our garden will be 3 to 3.5 inches deep. We will add a small
berm to avoid water runoff.
We have chosed some plants that include: fox sedge, black eyed susans, and coneflowers.
We will get additional suggestions from a garden center to ensure we use the appropriate
plants. We will also use a butterfly house and bird feeders to enhance the appearance of
our rain garden.
Thanks again for your helpful tips! We really appreciate your assistance.
--- On Wed, 7/9/08, Bryan Lloyd <bryan.11oyd@ci.roseville.mn.us> wrote:
From: Bryan Lloyd <bryan.11oyd@ci.roseville.mn.us>
Subject: Rain garden plans
To: pattysagert@yahoo.com
Date: Wednesday, July 9, 2008, 9:19 AM
Patty and Tom,
I received the site sketch you dropped off for me. As a sort of
conceptual plan, it indicates that you've given some thought to where to
put a rain garden, but this will need to have detail almost like a
building plan so that Deb, the City Engineer, can be certain that the
runoff will be effectively captured and infiltrated. I haven't been able
to confirm with Deb exactly what information she will need in order to
approve the plan, but I've made a little list of likely candidates
below:
*What kind of soils are on the property? Sandy? Silty? Clayey?
*Will the soil have to be amended as part of the project to ensure
proper drainage?
