� <br />z':; <br />E;::::?.. <br />:'t_ <_ <br />CHAPTER 6 <br />MECHANIGAL AND ELECTRiCAL R�C�UIRElVIENTS <br />SECTION 601 <br />GENERAL <br />601.1 Scope. The provisions of this chapter shall govern the <br />minimum mechanical and electricaI facilities and equipment to <br />be provided. <br />641.2 Responsibility. The owner of the swcture shall provide <br />and maintain mechanical and electrical facilities and equip- <br />ment in compliance with these requirements. A person shall not <br />occupy as owner-occupant or permit another person to occupy <br />any premises which does not comply with the requirements of <br />this chapter. <br />SECTION 602 <br />:-1En-�ipir Fe�iLi-�-�Ec <br />642.1 Facilifies required. Heating facilities shall be provided <br />in structures as required by this section. <br />602.2 Residential oceupancies. Dwellings shall be provided <br />with heating faciiities capable of maintaining a room tempera- <br />ture of 68°F (?n°C) in all habitable root*:�_'��rhrnoms and toilet <br />rooms ba�eo a» the winter outdoor design temperatt�re for the <br />locality indicated in Appendix D of the Internatioiial Plumbing <br />Code. Cooking appliznces shall not be used to provide space <br />heating to meet the reqoirements of this section. <br />Exception: In areas where �he average monthly temperature <br />� is above 30°F (-1°C), a minimum temperature of 65°F <br />(18°C) shall be maintained. <br />6023 Heat supply. Every owner and operator of any building <br />who rents, leases or lets one or more dwelling unit, rooming <br />unit, dormitory or guestroom on terms, eid�er expressed or im- <br />plied, [o furnish heat to the occupants thereof shall supply heat <br />during the period from [DATE] to [DATE] to tnaintain a tempera- <br />ture of not less than 68°F (20°C) in all habitable rooms, bath- <br />rooms, and toilet rooms. <br />Exceptions: <br />1. When the outdoor temperature is below the winter <br />outdoor design temperature for the locality, mainte- <br />nance of the minimum room temperature shall not be <br />required grovided that the heating system is operating <br />at its full design capacity. The winter outdoor design <br />teri�erature for che locality shall be as indicated in <br />Agpendi� D of the International Plumbing Code. <br />� 2. In areas where the average monthly temperature is <br />above 30°F (-1°C) a minimum temperature of 65°F <br />(18°C) shall be maintained. <br />602.4 Occupiable work spaces. Indoor occupiable work <br />spaces shall be supplied with heat during the period from <br />2003 fEVTERNATIONAL PROPERTY MAINTENANCE CODE� <br />[DATE] to [DATE� to maintain a temperature of notless than 65°F <br />(18°C) during the period the spaces are occupied. <br />Exceptions: <br />1. Processing, storage and operation areas that require <br />cooling or special temperature conditions. <br />2. Areas in which persons are primarily engaged in vig- <br />orous physical activities. <br />6d2.5 Room temperature measurement. The required room <br />temperatures shall be measured 3 feet (914 mm) above the floor <br />near the center of the room and 2 feet (610 mm) inward from <br />the center of each exterior wall. <br />SECTION 603 <br />MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT <br />603.1 Mechanical appliances. All mechanical appliances, <br />fireplaces, solid fuel-burning appliances, cooking appliances <br />and water heating appliances shall be properly installed and <br />maintained in a safe working condition, and shal] be capable of <br />performing the intended function. <br />603.2 Removai of combustion products. All fuel-burning <br />equipment and appiiances shali be connected to an approved <br />chimney or vent. <br />Excep6on: Fuel-burning equipment and appliances which <br />are labeled for unvented operation_ <br />6033 Clearances. All required clearances to combustible ma- <br />terials shail be maintained. <br />G03.4 Safefy eontrols. A11 safety controls for fuel-buming <br />equipment shal] be maintained in effective operation. <br />6035 Combustion air. A supply of air for complete combus- <br />tion of the fuel and for ventilation of the space containing the <br />fuei-burning equipment shall be provided for the fuel-buming <br />equipment. <br />603.6 Energy conservation devices. Devices intended to re- <br />duce fuel consumption by attachment to a fuel-burning appli- <br />ance, to the fuel supply line thereto, or to the vent outlet or vent <br />piping therefrom, shall noi be installed unless labeled for such <br />purpose and the installation is specifically approved. <br />SECTION 604 <br />ELECTRICAL FACIUTfES <br />604.1 Facilities required. Every occupied building shall be <br />provided with an elecirical system in compliance with the re- <br />quirements of this section and Section b05. <br />604.2 Service.
