� z':; E;::::?.. :'t_ <_ CHAPTER 6 MECHANIGAL AND ELECTRiCAL R�C�UIRElVIENTS SECTION 601 GENERAL 601.1 Scope. The provisions of this chapter shall govern the minimum mechanical and electricaI facilities and equipment to be provided. 641.2 Responsibility. The owner of the swcture shall provide and maintain mechanical and electrical facilities and equip- ment in compliance with these requirements. A person shall not occupy as owner-occupant or permit another person to occupy any premises which does not comply with the requirements of this chapter. SECTION 602 :-1En-�ipir Fe�iLi-�-�Ec 642.1 Facilifies required. Heating facilities shall be provided in structures as required by this section. 602.2 Residential oceupancies. Dwellings shall be provided with heating faciiities capable of maintaining a room tempera- ture of 68°F (?n°C) in all habitable root*:�_'��rhrnoms and toilet rooms ba�eo a» the winter outdoor design temperatt�re for the locality indicated in Appendix D of the Internatioiial Plumbing Code. Cooking appliznces shall not be used to provide space heating to meet the reqoirements of this section. Exception: In areas where �he average monthly temperature � is above 30°F (-1°C), a minimum temperature of 65°F (18°C) shall be maintained. 6023 Heat supply. Every owner and operator of any building who rents, leases or lets one or more dwelling unit, rooming unit, dormitory or guestroom on terms, eid�er expressed or im- plied, [o furnish heat to the occupants thereof shall supply heat during the period from [DATE] to [DATE] to tnaintain a tempera- ture of not less than 68°F (20°C) in all habitable rooms, bath- rooms, and toilet rooms. Exceptions: 1. When the outdoor temperature is below the winter outdoor design temperature for the locality, mainte- nance of the minimum room temperature shall not be required grovided that the heating system is operating at its full design capacity. The winter outdoor design teri�erature for che locality shall be as indicated in Agpendi� D of the International Plumbing Code. � 2. In areas where the average monthly temperature is above 30°F (-1°C) a minimum temperature of 65°F (18°C) shall be maintained. 602.4 Occupiable work spaces. Indoor occupiable work spaces shall be supplied with heat during the period from 2003 fEVTERNATIONAL PROPERTY MAINTENANCE CODE� [DATE] to [DATE� to maintain a temperature of notless than 65°F (18°C) during the period the spaces are occupied. Exceptions: 1. Processing, storage and operation areas that require cooling or special temperature conditions. 2. Areas in which persons are primarily engaged in vig- orous physical activities. 6d2.5 Room temperature measurement. The required room temperatures shall be measured 3 feet (914 mm) above the floor near the center of the room and 2 feet (610 mm) inward from the center of each exterior wall. SECTION 603 MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT 603.1 Mechanical appliances. All mechanical appliances, fireplaces, solid fuel-burning appliances, cooking appliances and water heating appliances shall be properly installed and maintained in a safe working condition, and shal] be capable of performing the intended function. 603.2 Removai of combustion products. All fuel-burning equipment and appiiances shali be connected to an approved chimney or vent. Excep6on: Fuel-burning equipment and appliances which are labeled for unvented operation_ 6033 Clearances. All required clearances to combustible ma- terials shail be maintained. G03.4 Safefy eontrols. A11 safety controls for fuel-buming equipment shal] be maintained in effective operation. 6035 Combustion air. A supply of air for complete combus- tion of the fuel and for ventilation of the space containing the fuei-burning equipment shall be provided for the fuel-buming equipment. 603.6 Energy conservation devices. Devices intended to re- duce fuel consumption by attachment to a fuel-burning appli- ance, to the fuel supply line thereto, or to the vent outlet or vent piping therefrom, shall noi be installed unless labeled for such purpose and the installation is specifically approved. SECTION 604 ELECTRICAL FACIUTfES 604.1 Facilities required. Every occupied building shall be provided with an elecirical system in compliance with the re- quirements of this section and Section b05. 604.2 Service.
