Human Rights Commission <br />Meeting Minutes <br />July 17, 2013 <br />Commissioners: Scot Becker, Vice Chair Jill Brisbois (arrived at 6:50 p.m.), Chair <br />Gary Grefenberg, Wayne Groff, and David Singleton <br />Youth Commissioners: Julia Laden, Marie Siliciano, Sarah Thomas <br />Commissioners Absent: Kaying Thao (excused) and Joan Dao <br />Others: Sungmoon Lim (Youth Commissioner - elect) and Megan Dushin <br />Staff Present: Carolyn Curti <br />Call to Order <br />The Human Rights Commission (HRC) meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. Chair Gary <br />Grefenberg requested staff call the roll. <br />Approve Agenda <br />Commissioner David Singleton moved and Commissioner Scot Becker seconded motion to <br />approve the agenda as amended adding a Request for HRC Assistance for the August 19 <br />Program sponsored by Falcon Heights Human Rights Commission to be discussed under Other <br />Committee Reports. Motion passed unanimously. <br />Approve Minutes <br />Commissioner Singleton moved and Commissioner Wayne Groff seconded a motion to approve <br />the June 17, 2013 meeting minutes as amended. Motion passed unanimously. <br />Public Comment <br />There being no one present wishing to speak to the Commission on an item not on the agenda, <br />the chair moved to the next agenda item. <br />Consideration of 2014 Student Essay Topics to be Recommended to the League of <br />Minnesota Human Rights Commission <br />Chair Grefenberg reported that he had written the Youth Engagement Committee to consider <br />whether they would like to recommend for the Commission's consideration possible student <br />essay contest questions. He indicated in response to his request Youth Commissioner Siliciano <br />had recommended all four previous questions not selected last year be forwarded to the <br />Minnesota League of Minnesota Human Rights Commission for its consideration for coming <br />year's state contest. <br />The four topic questions are as follows: <br />1. In your own words, define equality and equity. Where do you see equality and equity or <br />inequality and inequity in your community? Reference the US Constitution, the UN <br />Universal Declaration of Human Rights or the Bill of Rights in your answer. <br />
