How do stereotypes affect our society and how do <br />they damage human rights? Micro inequities (jokes or comments at the expense of a certain group of people) are <br />prominent in our community. Sometimes it's hard to tell what is ok and what is offensive. <br />How do we use language to protect or violate human rights? Reference the US <br />Constitution, the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights or the Bill of Rights in your <br />answer. <br />4. Describe a human rights movement that shapes our society today. What does it take to <br />change society to protect human rights? Reference the US Constitution, the UN Universal <br />Declaration of Human Rights or the Bill of Rights in your answer. <br />Chair Grefenberg indicated this could be done, as the Minnesota Human Rights Commission <br />would then select one final topic. <br />Commissioner Singleton suggested emphasis be placed on Topic #2 but recommended all four <br />be passed along. <br />Commissioner Groff agreed with this recommendation, as in his opinion all four questions were <br />great. <br />The consensus was to forward all four questions to the Minnesota Human Rights Commission <br />prioritizing Topic #2 as number one, Topic #3 would be number two, Topic #4 would be number <br />three and Topic #1 would be number four. <br />Commissioner Singleton moved and Commissioner Groff seconded a motion to forward the four <br />2014 Student Essay Topics to the League of Minnesota Human Rights Commission as prioritized <br />above. Motion passed unanimously. <br />Committee Reports <br />Chair's Report: <br />Chair Grefenberg stated last month there had been some Commission discussion regarding the <br />some Commissioners' feelings of being overburdening of the members from the Commission. It <br />was discussed that more work was to be conducted at the meetings, and not in subcommittees to <br />alleviate some of this stress. For this reason, a work schedule4-and calendar was created to assist <br />the Commission in prioritizing its goals and objectives. <br />Chair Grefenberg reported he participated in the Council's five interviews that were recently <br />conducted for the Human Rights Commission seat vacancy. He was pleased there was great <br />interest in the HRC and noted each of the five candidates were highly qualified. He advised <br />Commission members that during breaks the idea of adding two new commissioners to assist <br />with the HRC's work load had been informally raised. <br />
