He indicated Michele Courneya has been working on this item. 317 He questioned if the Commission was in favor of sponsoring such a ceremony and reception. 318 319 Mr. Vang explained that many Karen members have applied for citizenship and he would be 320 willing to work with the Commission on such a future ceremony. 321 322 Commissioner Courneya indicated the Federal Court system would need to know how many new 323 immigrants the event would sponsor and three possible dates for the event. She commented the 324 event would take 30 to 40 minutes and could be held in the Council Chambers. She suggested 325 the ceremony be held in conjunction with a future HRC meeting. 326 327 Chair Grefenberg was in favor of holding the event in the Council Chambers. 328 329 There was a consensus of the Commission to move forward with the Naturalization Ceremony. 330 331 2013/14 Essay Contest 332 333 Ms. Curti requested two members of the Commission volunteer to read all of the essays from the 334 Essay Contest and make recommendations on the top approximately 20 to 30 submittals. Vice 335 Chair Brisbois and Commissioner Courneya volunteered. Ms. Curti would provide these two 336 members with the submittal deadlines. 337 338 Grefenberg suggested that possibly someone else could also volunteer in order to share in this 339 work, but after appropriate chastisement from Vice Chair Brisbois he withdrew his suggestion. 340 341 Committee and Chair Reports 342 343 Chair's Report 344 345 Notice of Election of New HRC Officers: Chair Grefenberg noted that pursuant to the 346 Commission's By -laws the November 20th meeting would include the election of Af-F4 rr f ^r a 347 Chair and Vice Chair. He reiterated that he would not be 348 fun seeking reelection, and enquired as to Vice Chair Brisbois intentions. She replied that 349 she also would not be seeking reelection. 350 351 The Chair asked that any person interested in running for either of these two positions let him 352 know before the November 20th meeting so if necessary he could propose some procedures in 353 case there was a contested contest. He indicated he was aware of one commissioner's interest in 354 the position of chair, and another in the position of Vice Chair. 355 356 Vice Chair Brisbois moved and Commissioner Singleton seconded a motion nominating Wayne 357 Groff as Chair of the Human Rights Commission. Chair Grefenberg allowed the nomination 358 with the understanding that other nominations would also be accepted at the November meeting. 359 The nomination was accepted by Commissioner Groff. 360
