He indicated Michele Courneya has been working on this item. <br />317 He questioned if the Commission was in favor of sponsoring such a ceremony and reception. <br />318 <br />319 Mr. Vang explained that many Karen members have applied for citizenship and he would be <br />320 willing to work with the Commission on such a future ceremony. <br />321 <br />322 Commissioner Courneya indicated the Federal Court system would need to know how many new <br />323 immigrants the event would sponsor and three possible dates for the event. She commented the <br />324 event would take 30 to 40 minutes and could be held in the Council Chambers. She suggested <br />325 the ceremony be held in conjunction with a future HRC meeting. <br />326 <br />327 Chair Grefenberg was in favor of holding the event in the Council Chambers. <br />328 <br />329 There was a consensus of the Commission to move forward with the Naturalization Ceremony. <br />330 <br />331 2013/14 Essay Contest <br />332 <br />333 Ms. Curti requested two members of the Commission volunteer to read all of the essays from the <br />334 Essay Contest and make recommendations on the top approximately 20 to 30 submittals. Vice <br />335 Chair Brisbois and Commissioner Courneya volunteered. Ms. Curti would provide these two <br />336 members with the submittal deadlines. <br />337 <br />338 Grefenberg suggested that possibly someone else could also volunteer in order to share in this <br />339 work, but after appropriate chastisement from Vice Chair Brisbois he withdrew his suggestion. <br />340 <br />341 Committee and Chair Reports <br />342 <br />343 Chair's Report <br />344 <br />345 Notice of Election of New HRC Officers: Chair Grefenberg noted that pursuant to the <br />346 Commission's By -laws the November 20th meeting would include the election of Af-F4 rr f ^r a <br />347 Chair and Vice Chair. He reiterated that he would not be <br />348 fun seeking reelection, and enquired as to Vice Chair Brisbois intentions. She replied that <br />349 she also would not be seeking reelection. <br />350 <br />351 The Chair asked that any person interested in running for either of these two positions let him <br />352 know before the November 20th meeting so if necessary he could propose some procedures in <br />353 case there was a contested contest. He indicated he was aware of one commissioner's interest in <br />354 the position of chair, and another in the position of Vice Chair. <br />355 <br />356 Vice Chair Brisbois moved and Commissioner Singleton seconded a motion nominating Wayne <br />357 Groff as Chair of the Human Rights Commission. Chair Grefenberg allowed the nomination <br />358 with the understanding that other nominations would also be accepted at the November meeting. <br />359 The nomination was accepted by Commissioner Groff. <br />360 <br />
