She asked what the cost <br />93 of such a program would be. <br />94 <br />95 Chair Grefenberg indicated that he had just very recently been in contact with Advocates for <br />96 Human Rights, so he could only preliminarily estimate the event would cost <br />97 approximately $250 -300. He anticipated the Karen community could be invited to the event. He <br />98 was in favor of directing the Program Planning Committee to pursue an immigrant forum in <br />99 November. <br />100 <br />101 Youth Commissioner Thomas questioned how the information gathered from this event would be <br />102 used. Chair Grefenberg stated the data gathered could be passed along to the legislature and <br />103 governor, and could also be an event to welcome new immigrants to the City of Roseville. <br />104 <br />105 Chair Grefenberg moved and Commissioner Singleton seconded a motion to approve the <br />106 Program Planning Committee pursuing a Community Conversation with Immigrants Forum to <br />107 be held in November with the expense not to exceed $300. Motion passed unanimously. <br />108 <br />109 Immigration Reform Forum on August 20: Chair Grefenberg discussed the Immigration <br />110 Reform Forum that was held on August 20, sponsored by the two local DFL Senate district <br />111 organizations. He was pleased with the focus and discussion of the forum. <br />112 <br />113 Commissioner Thao agreed, indicating that she had also attended this forum and and was <br />114 of the opinion that the presenters provided a great deal of educational information. She <br />115 commented the current federal law was discussed along with the proposed changes. She <br />116 estimated that 60 people were in attendance at the Forum. <br />117 <br />118 Grefenberg noted that he had also contacted the local Republican organization and offered to <br />119 cooperate on similar programs with them. He concluded his report on this event by noting that <br />120 the event organizers had agreed to provide to the HRC the contact information of the Roseville <br />121 residents who had attended. He asked staff liaison Carolyn Curti to pursue eg tting that <br />122 information; Commissioner Kaying also indicated she could assist in eg tting that information as <br />123 well. <br />124 <br />125 Report on September 6th Meeting with Karen Leadership (KOM): Chair Grefenberg <br />126 discussed how the HRC could welcome the Karen community to the City of Roseville. He <br />127 indicated that he and Commissioner Groff attended a meeting on September 6 with the Karen <br />128 leadership. He requested comment from the Commission on how to address the comments <br />129 gathered from this meeting. He anticipated that collaborating with the Karen community would <br />130 become an important HRC initiative ° u12 t, and not a single one -time event oT,gram. <br />131 <br />132 Commissioner Groff thanked Chair Grefenberg for the background report and meeting summary <br />133 he wrote on the Karen Community. He indicated the Karen community was seeking fair <br />134 treatment from the school district and with housing. Several examples were discussed with the <br />135 Commission. <br />
