Human Rights Commission Minutes <br />September 18, 2013 —Draft Minutes <br />Page 8of10 <br />316 Chair Grefenberg stated he would use his discernment in planning this event to sure that the <br />317 expense was kept manageable. <br />318 <br />319 Chair Grefenberg moved and Commissioner Becker seconded a motion to f: mm�- ° <br />320 authorize up to, but no more than $175 for an appreciation event to thank with the Civic <br />321 Engagement Task Force provided that there is significant interest on the part of said task force <br />322 members. Motion passed unanimously. <br />323 <br />324 Assessment of Council Feedback from August 12 Joint Meeting <br />325 - llian»aaior <br />326 Af Uall in «Warr Plan far 1011 101 A <br />327 <br />328 Discussion: Chair Grefenberg reviewed the council members' comments made at the August 12 <br />329 joint Council meeting with the Commission. He was pleased with the appreciation of the HRC <br />330 expressed by the Council. He requested comments from the Commission members that <br />331 attended the Council meeting. <br />332 <br />333 Commissioner Courneya found the Council to be very appreciative of the work being completed <br />334 by the HRC, along with the proposed work plan for 2014. She stated there was some concern as <br />335 to the number of eomm commissions the City should have along with the number of <br />336 members on each eommi'.4 commission. She thought there was consensus that Civic <br />337 Engagement and Human Rights were both huge issues, and that a great deal of work was being <br />338 done by the HRC at this time. She <br />339 indicated that she could not <br />340 discern any consensus on the Council regarding whether there should be a Civic Engagement <br />341 Commission separate from the HRC. <br />342 <br />343 Commissioner Groff added that he also did not hear agreement by the Council on the Civic <br />344 Engagement and Human Rights committee issues. It was his concern that there was <br />345 not be funding to create another commission at this time, and that additional members could be <br />346 the best option for the HRC. <br />347 <br />348 Chair Grefenberg suggested that if additional members were added the Commission's name <br />349 be changed to the Human Rights and Civic Engagement Commission. <br />350 <br />351 Commissioner Singleton recommended this matter be discussed at a future meeting. He said he <br />352 was pursuing a plant to have an Office of Human Rights established to assure that the human <br />353 rights issues in Roseville were being fully addressed. <br />354 <br />355 Chair Grefenberg commented the Council has already approved the preliminary 2014 budget and <br />356 as such there was not enough time to cxeltl itatle add this to the budget. <br />357 <br />358 Commissioner Singleton stated his thoughts would be to have the pilot program funded by <br />359 outside sources and would not begin until 2015. <br />360 <br />
