The alternative <br />273 would be to post a meeting notice three days prior to a meeting. <br />274 <br />275 Chair Grefenberg moved and Commissioner Groff seconded a motion to revise the Human Right <br />276 Commission's Work Plan, Goal 7A to assure that the Commission was collaborating with the <br />277 Karen community on issues or projects of mutual relevance of the Commission and the Karen <br />278 Organization of Minnesota, with the leadership of this effort being Chair Grefenberg, <br />279 Commissioner Groff and Commissioner Becker. Motion passed unanimously. <br />280 <br />281 Chair Grefenberg asked if the Commission was interested in hosting a naturalization ceremony <br />282 to recognize Karen members of the community who become US citizens, He <br />283 anticipated that there would be a great deal of lead time in order to plan such an event as the <br />284 federal court systems would have to '.° tt concur. <br />285 Commissioner Thao was interested in pursuing this event. <br />286 <br />287 Commissioner Courneya suggested all minority groups be involved in the naturalization <br />288 ceremony and not just the Karen community. Chair Grefenberg indicated that this proposal <br />289 seemed reasonable. <br />290 <br />291 Commissioner Becker questioned who would be working on the program. <br />292 <br />293 Chair Grefenberg recommended Commissioner Courneya ___ %'_T° i initiate a request <br />294 of the federal court system at the appropriate time. <br />295 <br />296 Chair Grefenberg moved and Commissioner Becker seconded a motion to recommend the HRC <br />297 pursue hosting a naturalization ceremony that would recognize immigrant communities in the <br />298 Roseville area that will become US citizens. Motion passed unanimously. <br />299 <br />300 (Commissioner Thao excused herself from the meeting at 7:56 p.m.) <br />301 <br />302 Chair Grefenberg recommended the Commissioner authorize up to, but no more than $325 for a <br />303 dinner to thank the Civic Engagement Task Force. <br />304 <br />305 Commissioner Groff wanted to be assured that there would be a good turnout. Commissioner <br />306 Singleton was in favor of the event, but recommended the amount spent on this event be <br />307 lowered. <br />308 <br />309 Chair Grefenberg understood this concern but anticipated the Civic Engagement Task Force <br />310 wanted to see this discussion happen. Commissioners discussed when the City Council would <br />311 take action on the Task Force recommendations Of + Jofee <br />312 <br />313 Ms. Curti said she did not think the Council would take action before January or February of <br />314 2014. <br />315 <br />
