The House district line divides persons living within Mounds View ~chool
District 622 into two districts. Precinct 5 is established for persons
in House District 54B and Precinct 10 for persons in House District 54A.
since the boundaries for these two precincts are established by
legislative and school district boundaries, the number of persons in
each precinct is relatively small, while the remaining precincts in
House District 54A are quite large. The three remaining precincts
average 3,600 eligible voters, which is considerably more than 'the cur-
rent average of 2,700 eligible voters per precinct.

option B

pi strict

Precinct Location

54B
54B
54B
54B
54B
54A
54A
54A
54A
54A

1 North Heights Lutheran Church
2 Parkview Center School
3 Prince of Peace Church
4 Grace Church
5 Roseville Community Center
6 McCarrons Training Center
7 Roseville Lutheran Church
8 Har Mar Shopping Center
9 Fairview community Center
10 centennial united Methodist

poculation

3,799
4,179
4,122
3,556
1,404
3,130
3,648
3,084
3,428
3,135

Over 18

3,107
3,260
3,255
2,868
1,127
2,526
2,887
2,583
2,868
2,653

By adding an additional precinct in House District 54A, the average
number of eligible voters per precinct reflects the current average for
those precincts and provides for a minimal change in the current pre-
cinct boundaries.. This additional precinct requires the purchase of
another optical Scan voting system, currently $7,900 for the hardware,
and $275 per year for the maintenance contract.

Recommendation
It is recommended that Option B be approved. This option increases the
number of precincts to ten and keeps the number of voters per precinct
at a reasonable level. Because these precincts will be used for this
Fall's elections, the cost for the additional voting machine should be
budgeted from the contingency Fund.

I
I

COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED:

Motion adopting resolution setting forth precinct boundaries as outlined
in option B above.

Motion authorizing the purchase of additional voting equipment for one
polling place at a cost not to exceed $7,900, to be funded from the
contingency Account.
