182 <br />183 <br />184 <br />185 <br />186 <br />187 <br />188 <br />1g� <br />i90 <br />191 <br />192 <br />193 <br />194 <br />Human Rights Commission Minutes <br />February 19, 2014 — Draft Minutes <br />Page 5 of 13 <br />Chair Groff asked if a representative and an alternate could be selected from the group. <br />Commissioner Grefenberg stated this would be allowed, but clarified that the election of all <br />directors occurred at the u�coming annual meetin� <br />Chair Groff commented he was willing to serve in this capacity. <br />Commissioner Becker stated he would be available to serve as the alternate. <br />Committee and Other Reports <br />Civic Engagement Task Force <br />195 Council Action at February 10, 2014 meeting regarding establishing new Commissions: <br />196 Commissioner Grefenberg, co-chair of the HRC's Civic Enaa�ement Task Force, reported the <br />197 Council created a Civic Engagement Commission on a 4-1 vote at their February 10, 2014 <br />198 meeting. He submitted a description of this commission to the HRC members present. It was <br />199 his opinion there would not be any overlap between the Civic Engagement Commission and the <br />20o HRC. He reported that � current commission members could apply for the Civic <br />201 Engagement Commission, explainin� that he understood Commissioner Becker was interested in <br />202 a�plvin� for this new commission. He explained he intends to apply based on his understanding <br />203 that membership was open to existing commissioners. uo �.,-,,,,,.�,� ��,;� „r �„ ;�� ,-,,, ��,o uvr <br />204 <br />205 <br />206 <br />207 <br />208 <br />209 <br />210 <br />211 <br />Staff Liaison said she had a different understanding on this issue of whether current <br />commissioners could a�lv for the Communitv En�,a�ement Commission. <br />Commissioner Grefenber� asked that anv other Commission members interested in joinin� the <br />new Communitv En�a�ement Commission also contact him. <br />212 Pending Consideration of Revising Human Rights Commission Ordinance: Commissioner <br />213 Grefenberg reviewed the first draft of the Human Rights Commission Ordinance with the HRC. <br />214 He discussed the � language changes pro�osed bv staf£ He encouraged the Chair and <br />215 Vice Chair to discuss this matter in further detail before the proposed Ordinance was reviewed <br />216 and acted u�on by the Council. <br />21� <br />218 As noted in the Civic En�a�ement Re�ort dated Februarv 12� which was included in the meetin� <br />219 ap cket, �Ie Grefenberg s�ttgge�e� recommended that the g�e�}rCommission authorize �e its <br />22o Operations Committee to review and prepare a response to these changes before the March HRC <br />221 meeting. <br />222 <br />223 In response to a question from Commissioner Becicer, Ms. Collins said it was her understandin� <br />224 the Council subcommittee on Commissions would be addressing the issue of revisin� the current <br />225 commissions' ordinances, but had not vet done that. She added that she did not anticipate that the <br />226 Council would not be taking action on this item before the March 19�' HRC meeting. <br />227 <br />
