In talking with fellow neighbor Paul Anderson this morning I also echo some of the positive
things he mentioned. By having Northwestern as a neighbor, there is a positive-young-happening
feel that you get from the presence of students walking by.
We have had positive interactions with the students we have met, and even paid one of them
shovel our driveway the week we were away on vacation. In full disclosure, he does attend our
church. :)
But,by having a consistent stream of UNW joggers and walkers passing by our house it reduces
the likelihood of crime. Who wants to commit a crime on a street where there is constant foot
traffic and many witnesses?
Traffic or parked cars
The actual parked cars don't bother me. What does bother me are drivers that speed or that don't
slow down on Lydia when they are going by a row of parked cars. That is what I was taught you
are to do. Slow your speed to anticipate a door opening, or someone walking to the street from
between two cars.
The concern for us would be that a driver that is speeding or not slowing along that line of
parked cars would not be able to see our children if they accidentally went into the street.
We do all that we can to supervise and watch our children, but things do happen. If there was to
be an accident I don't think it would be a Northwestern community member causing it. The real
danger is the driver who is trying to avoid traffic and trying to make a cut-over from
Snelling Ave to 35W, or vise-a-versa.
I hope this gives you a little idea where our family stands and our support for NWU's upcoming
construction.
Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help your efforts.
Thanks,
Chris Nelson
Christopher Nelson
Manager Constituent Programming
Office of Alumni and Parent Services
Bethel University
Cell: 651.428.8177
Phone: 651.635.8055
Confidentiality Statement:The documents accompanying this transmission contain confidential information that is legally privileged. This information is intended
only for the use of the individuals or entities listed above. If you are not the intended recipient, you are hereby notified that any disclosure, copying, distribution,or
action taken in reliance on the contents of these documents is strictly prohibited. If you have received this information in error, please notify the sender immediately
and arrange for the return or destruction of these documents.
2
