As <br />proposed, it would create what proponcnts eall a <br />"unique sense or community or place for social <br />intimacy," City staff hoped to designate certain <br />uses for key areas to create a unified purpose for <br />the area should it be targeted for potential devel- <br />opment. <br />The proposal comes from a task force serving <br />at the request of city council to detennine what <br />uses, may be appropriate for the 121 acres in <br />question. Suggested uses for the site include a <br />place to serve as: an activity hub; a center to <br />coordinate and deliver essential city services <br />like the fire and police departments; a vcnue for <br />government, educational, cultural and sports <br />activities: a focal point for the community's <br />mcntal and physical health: and a marketplace. <br />I',' Keith Wictccki, chair of the task. force, emphfa- <br />sized that there arc no immediate plans or <br />development. Instead, the amendment would <br />simply provide a framework for potential devel- <br />opers to follow. According to Wietecki, any <br />~ potential development would still have to go <br />'j through publie hearings, mastcr plan proposals <br />and approval by city council. <br />"It's easier to visualize why you need a com- <br />prehensive plan when there is nothing there," he <br />said.
